The plant was presumably used as a tonic by First Nations people. It is thought that it was the Europeans who introduced the idea of using the plant more commonly as a tea. In the fur-trading era, the French Canadian “coureurs-de-bois” used Labrador Tea to extend their supplies of black tea. The leaves and the flowers can both be used for tea, either fresh or dried, and the leaves can be picked all year.

The downy leaves of this native plant produce an infusion with a lively and light flavour with strong citrus and camphor notes. Its vegetal character reminds us of lichen and cedar.

Please note: Labrador Tea contains high levels of tannin, high doses or particularly strong infusions can cause cramps and stomach aches. It is not recommended to infuse it for too long or to overindulge its consumption.

It is not recommended for pregnant women and for children under 6.
